Police warning over Isle of Wight illegal rave

A warning to anyone planning an illegal outdoor party on the Isle of Wight has been issued by police.

Officers from the island's police licensing team were following reports of an unlicensed music event being prepared for the weekend.

Sgt Mark Voller, from Isle of Wight's licensing, said: "A person who carries on unlicensed activities, or permits such activities, is liable to arrest."

The force said officers were ready to intervene and take enforcement action.

Mr Voller said: "We remind would-be promoters that events involving entertainment may require a premises licence or temporary event notice.

"On conviction, these licensing offences are punishable by imprisonment and a fine of up to £20,000."

Police said unlicensed events may present safety risks to those attending, and can cause widespread public nuisance.
