Dog walker stuck in mud rescued at Barton on Sea

A woman had to be rescued after becoming stuck in mud on a beach in Hampshire.

She was walking her dog at Barton on Sea on Sunday morning when she got stuck in the mudflats below Nash Farm Holiday Park.

Fire crews and specialist coastguard rescue mud extraction teams were called along with the Mudeford RNLI lifeboat.

The woman was freed and brought ashore at Chewton Bunny where she was treated by paramedics.

The dog, which was not stuck in the mud, was brought ashore unharmed.

Mike O'Sullivan, Solent coastguard watch manager, said: "If you become stuck in mud try and spread your weight as much as possible.

"If you have a mobile phone dial 999 and ask for the coastguard. Avoid moving and stay as calm as you can.

"You should also discourage others from attempting to rescue you because without the proper equipment they could become stuck too."
