Portsmouth FC: Man accused of Tal Ben Haim abuse tweet

A man has been charged with sending an abusive Twitter message to a former Portsmouth FC footballer Tal Ben Haim.

Matthew Smith, 33, from Berry Way, in Andover, Hampshire has been charged with an offence under the Communications Act 2003, a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said.

He is accused of sending of an abusive tweet directed at the former Portsmouth defender.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment or a fine.

Mr Smith will appear at Andover Magistrates' Court on 27 September.
