A British man has been charged in the United States with sexual assault after allegedly flying there to meet a 13-year-old girl.

Adam Robinson, 21, is accused of committing a "lewd act upon a child" six times between 15 and 23 December.

Mr Robinson, from Fleet, Hampshire was arrested at a motel in Redlands, California.

He is due to appear at San Bernardino Superior Court on Monday. His bail has been set at £620,000.

Mr Robinson is alleged to have struck up a relationship with the girl over the internet for more than a year.

A file prepared for the Californian court alleged four of the offences took place on 15 December with two others on 23 December.

The girl turned 14 on Christmas Eve.
