Southampton police to issue dispersal orders

Police are being given new powers in Southampton following complaints of anti-social behaviour.

The Section 30 Dispersal Order can be implemented by Hampshire Constabulary to deal with groups of two or more.

Areas affected include Southampton City Council-owned car parks in Grosvenor Square, Bedford Place, Eastgate Street, West Park Road and The Marlands.

Sector Insp Ryan Bartlett said the new powers would reduce the impact of troublemakers on others.

Officers can tell people to immediately leave an area, and anyone under the age of 16 "not under the effective control of a parent or a person over the age of 18" between 21:00 and 06:00 could be taken home. The order runs until 31 July.
