Basingstoke human remains confirmed as female
Human remains found in a Hampshire woodland have been confirmed as bones from a female's body.
Post-mortem investigations have been carried out following the discovery in Basingstoke on Wednesday at 14:30 GMT.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but police have informed the family of a long-term missing person of their discovery.
The remains, which are not thought to be more than 10 years old, were found off Basing Road in Old Basing.
Specialist officers are supporting the family of the missing person.
Det Insp Dave Brown, from Hampshire Constabulary's Major Investigation Team, said: "Various tests are still to be carried out on the bones found, but the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
"The scene remains cordoned off while specialist officers continue their work."
