Isle of Wight internet party sparks disorder

Eight people have been arrested following a house party on the Isle of Wight which was advertised on the internet.

After trouble flared at the house in Ryde on Friday night police moved revellers out and onto buses.

But trouble continued on the buses with more officers drafted into Newport to resolve the situation.

Eight people aged between 14 and 24 have been arrested, three in connection with assaults on police.

The officers were not seriously injured and remained on duty.

Sgt Michael Hughes said: "This large scale disorder was the result of a party being advertised on social media.

"We will be deploying extra patrols. We will not tolerate any repeat of this behaviour."
