Eastleigh motorway stretch reopened after improvement works
A busy motorway stretch near Southampton has reopened after 32 hours following major improvement works.
The eastbound M27 was shut between junctions four and five at 21:00 GMT on Saturday while work to improve surface water drainage was carried out.
The carriageway was fully reopened earlier ahead of the rush hour.
Drivers were diverted via some residential areas while works were carried out, causing tailbacks in the area during the weekend.
Phil Sheppard, Highways Agency asset manager, said works would reduce the likelihood of standing water on the carriageway, which is prone to flooding during heavy rainfall.
He said the 32-hour closure was the "best, safest and most cost-effective way" to conduct the works.
