Five arrests after teenager stabbed in Southampton brawl

A teenager has been stabbed during a mass brawl at a Southampton park.

Police believe up to 25 people were involved in the fight between two groups who used weapons including broken bottles and broken fencing.

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with a stab wound following the fight at 23:40 BST on Friday and is in a "serious but stable" condition.

Five people, all male, were arrested for offences including attempted murder, actual bodily harm and affray.

The suspects are aged 17, 18, 19, 21 and 23.

It is not yet known what weapon was used in the stabbing.

Officers are conducting forensic examinations in the park and at several properties in the area suspects are believed to have visited after the brawl.

Det Insp David Nealon is appealing for witnesses.

He said: "This assault could have easily claimed a young life - police want to work closely with the community to protect the people and places we serve from further harm."

Police are carrying out extra patrols in the area to encourage anyone with information to come forward and to reassure the community.
