A 31-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a man found unconscious in an alleyway in Southampton.

Kevin Wyeth, a 31-year-old father of three from Southampton, was found off Defender Road, Woolston, at about 02:30 BST on Saturday.

Post-mortem tests showed he died from head, facial and neck injuries.

Damon Wright, of Pine Vale Crescent, Bournemouth, is due to appear before Southampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A 25-year-old woman, from Southampton, was initially arrested but later released without charge. She is now helping officers with the inquiry, police said.

Mr Wyeth was found close to the cut-through with Tankerville Road. Despite attempts to revive him, he died at the scene.

In a statement Mr Wyeth's parents, Linda and Kevin, said they were in shock over his death and described him as a "very loving and devoted father".

"He will always be in our hearts and will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends," they added.
