Isle of Wight hovercraft evacuated after engine fire

Passengers had to be evacuated from a hovercraft on the Isle of Wight after a fire broke out in one of the engines.

The vessel was docked at Hovertravel's terminal in Quay Road, Ryde when the fire was reported by a member of staff at 21:15 BST on Sunday.

Coastguard officers were also involved in the operation.

No injuries were reported. All passengers are believed to have been safely off the hovercraft when the fire was discovered.
