Solar farm plans for West End approved

Plans for solar farm with 3,600 solar panels have been approved.

The £1.2m seven-acre (three-hectare) site will be built at Lower Russell's Farm at Allington Lane, West End, near Southampton.

Eastleigh Borough Council said it would generate about a megawatt of electricity per year - enough to power the equivalent of about 260 homes.

The authority, which is behind the plans, said it would also generate £1m in profit over its first 20 years.

Of that, it said it planned to commit £100,000 towards ongoing improvements to Itchen Valley Country Park where the farm will be built.
