Five rescued from Ventnor flat blaze

Firefighters have rescued several residents trapped by a fire in a flat on the Isle of Wight.

The blaze in a ground floor flat at a converted house in the High Street in Ventnor, started just after 22:40 BST.

Five people in the flat above were rescued by firefighters - one person was rescued from a balcony, the other four from the roof.

It took 20 firefighters almost two hours to bring the fire under control. No-one was injured.

An investigation into the cause has begun.
