Plans for a 57-acre (23-hectare) solar farm in the East Hampshire countryside have been unveiled.

The site at Wilsom Farm, near Alton, would generate electricity for more than 2,500 homes.

Conor McGuigan from Lightsource Renewable Energy, the company behind it, said local wildlife would be protected.

East Hampshire District Council said it would give the planning application "thorough consideration".

It is expected to be submitted following a public consultation at Worldham Village Parish Hall later.

The company proposes putting up 35,508 solar panels at the site.

The council said it would be looking at anything which might impact on the ecology of the area.

Mr McGuigan said the plans took into account the "rich rural history of the area" and that there would be as "little impact on the surroundings as possible".
