WW2 evacuation plaque at Hinton Ampner stately home
A plaque has been unveiled at a stately home to mark 75 years since it housed World War Two evacuees from Portsmouth.
Pupils from Portsmouth High School for Girls were sent to Hinton Ampner, home of the 8th Baron Sherborne, to avoid German bombing raids on the city.
Evacuee Thelma Wield said the experience at the house near Alresford had a "profound influence" on her life.
An exhibition about the period is also being staged at the house which is now a National Trust property.
