A new economic board is to be created for the Isle of Wight, the council has announced.

Isle of Wight Council said the board will help businesses apply for funding under the island's assisted area status.

Assisted areas qualify for government funding to encourage employment.

The board will include representatives from the council, the island's chamber of commerce, small businesses and the Isle of Wight College.

Its first meeting is expected to take place in the autumn.

The council said the board also aims to help more businesses start up - specifically in areas such as marine and manufacturing.
