An 81-year-old man has admitted killing his wife.

Annie Beaver, 81, was discovered by police at a property in Sherfield Avenue in Leigh Park, Havant, on 23 November 2013.

Peter Beaver denied the murder but pleaded guilty to her manslaughter at Winchester Crown Court.

The court heard Beaver's responsibility for killing his 81-year-old wife was "diminished" because he suffers from dementia.

The court previously heard the couple had lived together for 40 years.

Police have never confirmed the results of a post-mortem examination.

Judge Nigel Teare adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report.

He said one of the issues the court would have to consider was the extent to which Beaver's responsibility was diminished.

A date has not been fixed for the next hearing.

Beaver was released on bail.
