Pedestrian dies after Basingstoke taxi crash

A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a taxi in the early hours of New Year's Day in Hampshire.

Police believe Kaliam Fearon was walking along the A30 Winchester Road near the junction with Down Grange Farm, Basingstoke, when the crash happened at 00:35 GMT.

The 19-year-old, from the town, died in hospital.

The taxi driver, a man in his 30s from Basingstoke, was shaken but not seriously injured, officers said.

Police want to speak to any motorists who saw a pedestrian walking along the A30 between midnight and 00:30.
