Shirley house fire: Five people treated, 12 rescued

Twelve people were rescued from fire at a house in Southampton.

Firefighters led the occupants to safety after being called to the blaze on Charlton Road just before 04:30 GMT.

Five people were treated for smoke inhalation and one man was taken to Southampton General as a precaution by the ambulance service.

Four fire crews attended the blaze with roughly 25 firefighters. The fire, which started on the ground floor, was put out by 06:00 GMT.
