M27 Motorway closed at Segensworth after fatal crash
One person has died and seven have been injured in a crash and car fire on the M27 in Hampshire.
A lorry and at least three cars were involved in the crash near junctions 8 and 9 of the eastbound M27 near Segensworth, shortly after 09:00 GMT.
One of the cars involved caught fire. Seven people have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the eastbound carriageway was expected to reopen overnight.
With hundreds of cars caught in tailbacks, police said barrier cutting equipment was brought in to allow more stuck vehicles to be filtered off.
Eastbound traffic has been advised to leave the M27 at junction 8 and follow the hollow circle symbol along the A3024 southbound to Windover Roundabout.
Drivers should take the A27 eastbound through Park Gate, rejoining the M27 at junction 9 via the Segensworth roundabout.
There is also a lane closure in place westbound between junctions nine and eight.
Police said many options had been considered to get the traffic moving as quickly as possible.
