Rowers rescued from Itchen River after boat capsizes

Nine rowers have been rescued from the Itchen River in Southampton after their rowing skiff capsized.

The rowers were on a training exercise near the Northam Bridge on Thursday evening when they were thrown into the water.

Calshot RNLI lifeboat rescued eight team members, while the club's safety boat picked up the ninth.

Coastguard operations controller Ian Guy said: "Although cold and wet, they are safe and well."
