Three people arrested after three taxi drivers were attacked on the Isle of Wight have been released on bail.

A group of three women and two men attacked the drivers in the early hours of Sunday at the rank in South Street, Newport, police said.

Two people from Newport - a 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman - and a man from Freshwater, 22, were arrested on suspicion of assault.

All three have been bailed until June.

Some taxi firms are boycotting Newport's ranks at weekends between midnight and 07:00.

They are calling on the council to bring in a marshal scheme at the ranks to improve night-time safety.

Police also said they would be meeting taxi drivers on Friday to discuss their concerns and said there would be an increased police presence in Newport on Friday and Saturday night.
