A jewellery shop manager has described how she sprinted after a knifeman following an attempted robbery.

Two offenders wearing motorcycle helmets and balaclavas tried to raid David Mellor Jewellers in Waterloo Court, Andover, on Wednesday morning.

Manager Amy Mellor said they spent two minutes smashing the window with hammers while her father barricaded the front door with his foot.

She then gave chase as the raiders fled empty-handed.

Police have released a CCTV image of the offenders who arrived on a black scooter.

Ms Mellor, 22, said: "At one point my father opened the door to swipe at one of the men. I was just so angry... so I ran out and chased a guy who I then realised was armed with a hammer and a nine-inch knife.

"He had been left by his colleague who was riding off on the scooter.

"I chased him for about 200m. If I hadn't done the Southampton 10k race on Sunday, I might have gone faster."

Ms Mellor said the shop had previously been raided in September 2014, after which extra security was installed.

Hampshire police said it was believed the offenders travelled to the London area following Wednesday's raid.
