A cyclist has died after being hit by a lorry in Southampton city centre.

Police said the man, in his 60s, was struck on East Park Terrace outside Southampton Solent University at about 14:00 BST.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

Officers said parts of East Park Terrace and New Road would remain closed into the evening while investigations were carried out.

They have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The flatbed lorry was operated by J Webb plant hire, based in Peacehaven in East Sussex. The company declined to comment.
