A burst water main flooded a main road on the Isle of Wight, leaving homes and businesses without water.

The pipe under the High Street in Newport ruptured earlier, flooding and lifting the surface of the road.

The road remains closed between the Quay Street junction and the A3020 Coppins Bridge junction, with diversions via Quay Street.

Southern Water said the burst main had been repaired and the road would remain closed until Thursday evening.

The firm said supply had been restored to homes which were left without water or with low pressure.
