Fault cuts power to 4,000 Isle of Wight homes

Thousands of homes on the Isle of Wight were without electricity overnight after a cable fault.

Southern Electric Power Distribution (SEPD) said the power went off in about 4,000 homes in the PO33 postcode area at about 20:40 BST on Tuesday.

The company said it had been caused by an underground cable fault.

SEPD said power had been restored to 3,650 properties, but generators were being shipped in for the remaining 350, while engineers repaired the fault.
