A father whose son suffered "horrific injuries" in a hit-and-run crash has appealed for help to find the driver.

Darren Ford said Mikey, 19, sustained a serious head injury in the crash on the A32 in Fareham and remains in a critical condition.

Mr Ford said his son had woken from an induced coma but still had a "long way to go".

Hundreds of messages have been left on Mr Ford's Facebook page, where he has been posting news on Mikey's condition.

Damaged car

Mr Ford, who lives in Fareham, said his son was "mostly sleeping" and added: "It's going to be a slow recovery from these horrific injuries. But he's strong, and he's a fighter.

"Thank you all so much for your messages and prayers."

Hampshire Constabulary said the car involved was believed to be a three-door, silver car, possibly a Vauxhall Astra, which was likely to have damage to the front offside or windscreen.

Police have urged the driver of the car to come forward.

Anyone with information is also urged to contact the force.
