Southampton robber takes £25,000 in pepper spray attack

A masked robber attacked a security van driver with pepper spray before stealing £25,000, police have said.

The victim was not in his vehicle when he was approached by a man wearing a hi-vis jacket, hardhat and surgical mask in Vincent's Walk in central Southampton on Tuesday.

The attacker sprayed the driver in the face before stealing a cash box.

The robber than ran off towards Hanover Buildings, where he got into a small, silver hatchback car, officers said.

Hampshire Constabulary are appealing for witnesses to the robbery, which happened at 16:00 BST on Tuesday.

Detectives have described the attacker as white, 5ft 10in, of medium build and in his late 30s.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hampshire police on 101.
