Thousands of people were left without water when a water main burst on the Isle of Wight.

Southern Water said about 3,050 properties were affected after the burst at about 05:15 BST in Ryde at the junction of Smallbrook Lane and Great Preston Road.

The firm said supplies to all those affected were restored by 14:00.

It comes a week after 9,000 properties were affected when two mains burst on Ashey Road in the town.

Southern Water said the mains that burst on 21 August had since been repaired and were not connected to the current issues.

A spokesman for the firm said an investigation would be carried out to find out why the pipe fractured.

Both roads were closed for a time during repair work.
