Royal Marine reservist charged with firearms offences
A Royal Marine reservist has been charged with firearms offences.
Martin Shannon, 43, from Hythe in Southampton, was arrested following a covert operation by the National Crime Agency's (NCA) armed operations unit.
Mr Shannon was charged with selling a prohibited weapon, possessing a shortened shotgun, possessing seven high explosive grenades and purchasing 1,400 rounds of ammunition.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at Old Bailey on 30 September.
Rob Lewin, head of specialist operations at the NCA, said there was no link to terrorism nor to an arrest made last week by the Metropolitan Police.
