Witnesses sought after man suffers cardiac arrest in suspected assault

A man suffered a cardiac arrest after an alleged assault in Southampton on Saturday morning.

A 42-year-old man was arrested and released while investigations continue. A 25-year-old man also voluntarily attended an interview under caution.

The 44-year-old victim remains in Southampton General Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for phone footage of the incident in Vernon Walk between midnight and 00.40 BST.
