A luxury yacht has been destroyed by fire at a harbour on the Isle of Wight.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation after the 40ft (12m) Sunseeker vessel caught fire in Ryde Harbour at about 13:30 BST.

Fire crews have since extinguished the blaze and said the yacht was sinking.

The council said a quantity of diesel had leaked from the vessel and harbour staff were assisting the fire service to contain it within the harbour.

Isle of Wight Council added it was working with the owner of the boat to have it removed.

Members of the public have been advised to avoid the area.

The fire service said the pontoon where the yacht was tied up would need replacing.

The smoke plume was seen from Binstead village, about a mile away, on the outskirts of the town.
