Youngsters apply for sport grants in Malvern initiative

Talented young athletes are being given the chance to apply for funding by a sports charity set up in memory of a Worcestershire woman.

The Joanna Brown Trust, named after a Malvern woman, is launching its Talented Athlete Support Grant in partnership with the district council.

Athletes under the age of 18 can apply for up to £500.

The successful applicants will be announced at Malvern Hills District Sports Awards in December.

The scheme will provide young athletes with an opportunity to apply for funding to support them with matters such as training, travel, equipment or competition costs.

The charity has raised more than £70,000 since it began.
