New chief for Worcestershire health care service

NHS Worcestershire has announced a new chief executive.

Eamonn Kelly, a former chief executive of primary care trusts in Wyre Forest, Redditch and Bromsgrove will take up the role in January.

He takes over from Paul Bates, who recently said he would be retiring at the end of December.

Mr Kelly said the next few years would be challenging for the NHS but he would do all he could to build on progress made in recent years.

A recent government white paper for health outlines plans for primary care trusts to be abolished in 2013 and replaced with new GP Commissioning Consortia.

Trust chairman Bryan Smith said Mr Kelly had a difficult task ahead steering NHS Worcestershire through the "choppy waters" towards abolition.
