Shrawley man dies after half marathon race

A man from Shrawley has died after taking part in the first half marathon in Droitwitch.

Andrew Yarnold, 44, had just finished the Droitwich Half Marathon Road Race on Sunday when he collapsed.

His brother-in-law Glenn Conlan said he was an experienced runner and his death has come as a complete shock to the whole family.

"It's just very difficult for everybody, we're all just trying to ask why it happened," he added.

Father-of-two Mr Yarnold had been feeling unwell before the race and his wife Deanne had asked him not to take part.

"He insisted he wanted to go, he enjoyed marathon running," said Mr Conlan.

Paramedics worked on Mr Yarnold before taking him to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died of a heart attack.

Update: This report has been amended to clarify that the man was from Shrawley.
