A Worcestershire teenager has broken his own record to become a British powerlifting champion.

Mike Clark, from Bishops Cleeve, lifted 85kg in the 14 to 15-year-old category at the British Powerlifting Association's national championships.

He recently turned 16 and hopes to break another record in the 16 to 17-year-old category.

"The next is 90kg in the 16 to 17 age group - I love the challenge and I'm confident I can continue to win."

He added: "It's going to mean a lot of hard work and dedication."

Mike, who's a pupil at Bredon School, started the sport three years ago when he became involved in mixed martial arts.

"I've got dyslexia so it's helped build my confidence up - I'm more noticed now, everyone knows me because of it."

Headmaster John Hewitt said the school was very proud of his success: "Mike's worked very hard for this, completing a gruelling schedule of press-ups and sit-ups, in addition to lifting weights."
