Hereford flood alleviation scheme under way
A £4m scheme designed to protect homes and businesses from flooding has started in Hereford.
A new culvert will be created as part of the Yazor Brook project, which aims to protect properties around Millbrook Street, Nolan Road and Edgar Street.
The initiative, funded by Advantage West Midlands, is expected to take about a year to complete.
Herefordshire Council claims the scheme will prevent millions of pounds of damage to properties.
A council spokesman said agricultural land and scattered properties up stream of the flood alleviation scheme would also benefit.
Hereford Futures, a company overseeing a multi-billion-pound regeneration project in the city, said the A49 would not flood as a result of the flood alleviation initiative.
