Redditch Borough Council buys first electric vehicle
A Worcestershire council claims its first electric vehicle will save it money and reduce pollution.
The electric utility vehicle will be used by Redditch Borough Council for litter collection in the town centre.
Ceridwen John, from the council, said: "It is 10p cheaper a mile than each of the eight other vehicles in our street cleansing fleet."
The council said the vehicle would also reduce its carbon emissions and bring down local air pollution rates.
Other green initiatives planned by the council include using waste heat from a crematorium to heat a nearby swimming pool, and spending £180,000 on solar photovoltaic cells frorn council buildings.
