Police act over Matchborough wildlife cruelty

Youths have been tormenting wildlife at a Worcestershire duck pond, police said.

Officers have increased patrols at the pond at the back of the Matchborough centre, Matchborough, after getting reports of cruelty to the ducks.

Reports include youths riding into ducks on their bikes, throwing bottles at them and smashing their eggs.

The offenders used crates to build a makeshift bridge to an island in the pond, police said.

Pc Paul Downes said the incidents were "wanton cruelty" and were causing distress to residents nearby.

CCTV was being examined to identify the culprits, he said.
