Royal wedding dress 'copied' by Worcestershire firm

Dressmakers have been racing against time to copy the royal wedding outfit dress worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.

Karen Hamilton and Rachael Woodhouse, from a bridal shop in Studley, had a replica of the dress ready by the end of the royal wedding day.

Malvern-based designer Suzi Briggs has been working for 17 hours a day since Friday making her version.

"It's been difficult to get the right materials - I've got the closest that I can for that sort of design," she said.

She said the hardest part of the dress to replicate was the lace, which was handmade by a team of experts at the Royal School of Needlework in London.

"The only lace that's similar to it is beaded lace - which is more expensive - and so we've been sitting most of the morning cutting beads off the lace, so that we can put them on the dress," she added.

Her finished copy will convert into an evening dress, and will cost around £1,000.
