Man's body discovered in Mortimer Forest

A man's body has been discovered in a forest in Herefordshire.

West Mercia police said they were called to Mortimer Forest by a member of the public who discovered the body at about 0820 BST.

A spokesman said the body had been found on the edge of the Deepwood area of the forest, in Burrington.

He added the man had yet to be identified and so his next of kin had not yet been informed and his death was being treated as "unexplained".

Appeal for name

Det Insp Alan Mardell said: "We are treating this man's death as unexplained at this time."

He said a post-mortem examination was due to take place on Wednesday and, until they had the results, they would not be able to confirm the cause of death.

He added: "Detectives are attempting to confirm who this man is and what his movements were in the last 48 hours.

"I would appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary in the Mortimer Forest area or who may have any other information about who this man is or how he died, to get in touch immediately."
