Bromyard brewery offers placements to vulnerable adults

A brewery on the Herefordshire-Worcestershire border is offering volunteering work to people with mental health problems.

The Brockhampton Brewery, near Bromyard, is launching the Brew On Social Enterprise Scheme on Sunday.

Nick Comley from the brewery said the scheme would take people referred from social services and GP surgeries on 12-week placements.

He said: "They can gain the skills they would need to enter the job market."

"They'll be able to acquire brewing skills and they'll also be able to look at the business processes that take place from marketing right through to distribution and stock control."

Mr Comley, who has worked as a social worker and young people's substance misuse worker, said they would also offer placements to people will learning disabilities and possibly ex-offenders.

Val Comley from the mental health charity Mind is optimistic about the scheme.

She said: "They'll get the chance to escape from the norm and perhaps regimented routines that don't really aid their recovery - this is different."
