Stourport canal basin death boy was 12

A boy who died after he was pulled out of a canal basin was 12 years old, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the canal basin at Stourport, Worcestershire, on Friday after reports the boy had fallen into the water.

He fell into a lock close to the old Tontine pub.

The boy, who has not been named, was reportedly riding his bike over a narrow bridge when he lost his balance and fell into the water.

He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital where he was declared dead.
