Worcestershire laundry volunteer appointed MBE

A Worcestershire charity volunteer has been recognised for her 40 years of service helping others in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Diana Caldicott, 85, from Malvern, cleans other people's laundry for the WRVS laundry service.

The charity helps people who are unable to do laundry by collecting their clothes and returning them washed and ironed to their homes.

Mrs Caldicott has been appointed MBE for voluntary service to the WRVS.

Band of volunteers

She oversees a dedicated team of volunteers who drive around the town collecting clothes to bring back to the charity's laundry.

She said: "I was amazed. I told my daughter and she was absolutely thrilled.

"I don't do it on my own. I've got a band of volunteers, some have been with me for over 20 years."

Other people on the list in Herefordshire and Worcestershire include Peter Hulme, head of profession for psychology at Herefordshire Primary Care Trust, who was appointed OBE for services to Mental Healthcare and David Sparkes, who was appointed OBE for services to swimming in Droitwich, Worcestershire.
