Conservative Roma Kirke wins Whychavon by-election

A Conservative candidate has won a by-election in Worcestershire.

Roma Kirke is the new Wychavon District councillor for the Elmley Castle and Somerville ward after the election on Thursday.

Ms Kirke got 435 votes compared to rival candidate Jayne Lewis, for the Liberal Democrat party, who got 197. Turnout was 32.6%, the council said.

The council now has 39 Conservative councillors, five Liberal Democrats and one Labour.
