A play park in Worcestershire has been closed after vandals ripped up 40 sq m (48 sq yds) of safety surfacing.

Wychavon District Council has urged anyone who saw the vandalism at the Cotswold Rise play area in Evesham to contact them.

The council has estimated the damage will cost more than £2,000 to repair.

Wychavon's Parks Officer Lynn Stevens said: "This is a terrible act of selfishness which is going to spoil the summer holidays of local children."

She said the money to pay for the repairs would have to come out of funds set aside for providing new facilities for the council's parks.
