Herefordshire bus routes cancelled and cut back

Herefordshire Council is cutting two bus routes and limiting the services on 16 that operate across the county.

Routes between Ledbury and Ross and Bromyard to Hereford will be cancelled.

Adrian Blackshaw from the council said: "It doesn't mean in any way we diminish the importance of the bus service for the community."

Gillian Menzies, of the campaign group We Love Our Buses, said: "It severely cuts down the social network that we should be taking great care of."

She added: "The people that concern me most are the elderly, teenagers and the people that have never driven and are not going to be driving."

It is thought the changes will affect more than 100,000 journeys across the county.

The council has said it will spend £250,000 less on bus services, but claims it has minimised the cuts.

Earlier this year the council cut £300,000 from its budget for buses, meaning bus pass-holders can only travel after 09:30.
