Thieves steal more than 70 drain hole covers from roads
More than 70 drain covers were stolen from roads in Herefordshire over the bank holiday weekend.
Most of them were taken from the A465 - the main Hereford to Bromyard road.
The open drains have been covered with traffic cones and sandbags to prevent accidents.
Herefordshire Council said that in the past fortnight, 131 drain covers have been taken from 40 locations, including Hereford city, Leominster, Withington, Wellington and Credenhill.
The drain covers are made of cast iron and the council said it believed the recent thefts were due to rising scrap metal prices.
Two people have been arrested and released on police bail in connection with the thefts at the weekend.
