Bromsgrove war memorial appeal needs £50,000
An appeal has been launched to raise £50,000 for a war memorial in a Worcestershire town.
Bromsgrove has a memorial to those who died fighting in the Far East in World War II, but nothing for soldiers who died in other conflicts.
The Bromsgrove Armed Forces Memorial Fund (BAFMF) aims to have the monument in place by Remembrance Day 2012.
BAFMF chairman Phil McDermott said: "For reasons now lost to history there is no main memorial in Bromsgrove."
Bromsgrove District Council has given BAFMF a plot of land on Crown Green, next to the Burma Star memorial to those who died fighting in the Far East in WW2.
"When you consider the number of people from this town who have served this country in the forces over the years, especially those who lost their lives in the course of that service, it really is time now that there was something in place," said Mr McDermott.
