Flats evacuated following fire at pub in Hereford

Three flats had to be evacuated following a fire at a pub in Hereford city centre.

Fire crews were alerted to the fire in the outbuildings of the Horse and Groom pub in Eign Street at about 04:55 BST.

Three fire engines arrived to find a large fire with smoke spreading to a nearby three-storey block of flats and a storage unit.

Firefighters evacuated all six residents from their flats and extinguished the blaze.

The fire was under control by 08:15 BST, but the outbuildings, believed to be used for general storage at the pub, were completely destroyed.

No-one was injured in the fire.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said that a wall, affected by the fire, needed to be made safe before Eign Street could be reopened.

Fire officers are still at the scene, helping investigate the cause of the fire.
